Working Well: Meet Caitlin

I am so excited to bring a new series to the blog, where I highlight women who are working well! This series is all about women who are building businesses and lives by their own design. They are fueled by passion for what they do, they are full of resources for how they tun their businesses and lives, and they are all pretty fierce lemme tell ya. I feel so honored to know these women in some way, and SO excited to be able to share them with you!

I am kicking off this series by introducing you to my fashionista friend, Caitlin, CEO of Styled by Caitlin. She and I met many years ago as models for Birmingham Fashion Week, and it was clear to me then that Caitlin knew a thing or two about style. On top of being a fashionista, she is also a super savy entrepreneur who encourages me constantly with her big dreams and goals for herself and SBC.

In her words, Styled by Caitlin is "a lifestyle brand and blog also offering styling and PR services. SBC is a platform for me to share the things and people that I love. I focus on featuring and promoting women entrepreneurs and brands whose mission & vision is to give back to the community. I love being able to share my stories and struggles with my readers, it’s so important for me to have that raw aspect of my blog, to have that deeper connection." So without further adieu, let's get to know Cait!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF SBC? WHAT REALLY LIGHTS YOU UP?

By far my favorite part of SBC has been meeting amazing people and getting to collaborate with some very talented individuals! I’ve been very blessed along my journey and am so grateful for all the new friendships I’ve made along the way.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU LEARNED THE HARD WAY WHEN BUILDING YOUR BUSINESS?

Don’t forget why you started! Along the way, it’s easy to lose sight of your vision and voice. Stay true to yourself, your story, and your brand. There is no fast track to success! It’s worth the wait.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BUSINESS BOOK?

This past month, I have been particularly inspired by Adam Grant's new book Originals. In it, Grant skillfully dissects what has made certain people, companies and ideas truly original. Contrary to my assumptions, he explains why it is much harder for kids who have had early success and accolades to grow up to be truly originally successful, and how best to assess if an original idea will catch on. I’ll save the rest of his light bulb ideas for you to read on your own. I cannot recommend this book enough!

ANY INFLUENCERS, BLOGGERS, #GIRLBOSSES THAT YOU FOLLOW FOR INSPIRATION?

I am so inspired by every woman entrepreneur I meet, their drive and determination is so inspiring to me. Two women, in particular, that really inspire me are Lauren Bush Lauren of Feed Projects and my amazing friend Danielle Conte of Conscious Coconut. Both women started their own company whose mission is to end childhood hunger through Feeding America. Their ambition, their heart, and their success inspire to do more and to be better every day.

DO YOU HAVE A SONG THAT REALLY FIRES YOU UP AND MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU CAN CONQUER THE WORLD?

Just Like Fire by P!nk makes me petal faster at spin class, even when I am about to pass out, I can’t help but give it 110% when it comes on!

WHAT'S ONE THING YOU ARE CURRENTLY OBSESSING OVER?

Right now, I am personally obsessed with coconut oil. It is really the only thing you need in your beauty drawers. It’s not only a makeup remover, moisturizer, hair product, anti inflammatory, super food, and like 100 other things, but one coconut oil in particular also ends hunger. I am so passionate about promoting my friend’s product, I urge everyone I talk to to try it just once (then they are hooked!). You can purchase straight from her website and learn more about her company,www.consciouscoconut.com

DO YOU HAVE ONE TIP THAT HAS REALLY BEEN A GAME CHANGER FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

Working with Emily really was a game changer for SBC. Emily helped created a mood board for my entire brand, she helped me create a sense of cohesiveness throughout all my platforms that has taken Styled by Caitlin to the next level! (This one was unsolicited- I promise!! :) )

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC GOALS YOU ARE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

Right now I am working on several collaborations with some big brands and interviewing business owners for fresh content for my website. Long term goals (mine are oh-so lofty) to write a book, submit content/articles to Town & Country Magazine, and work more with major brands as a brand ambassador.
